Investigator Training Requirements for the SBS IRB
The University of Chicago requires that all researchers complete ethical training in the conduct of research prior to commencing research activities. As of October 1, 2011, the SBS IRB requires all new graduate students and new faculty members to complete the CITI Training Modules and attach the completion certificate to their research proposal in IRBWise.
All new graduate students should:
- Access the CITI Training Website
- Register on the website. The CITI administrators will email you an ID and password when you have been granted access.
- Log in to the website with your CITI ID and password and complete the Social and Behavioral Sciences Investigators and Key Personnel Basic Course under the University of Chicago Social and Behavioral Sciences. Once you have completed the training a completion certificate will be supplied.
- Download your completion certificate and upload to your application on IRBWise.
PLEASE NOTE: The SBS IRB will accept completed NIH training as well. If you have already completed NIH onsite research training, please upload completion certificate to your proposal.
NIH-funded researchers should receive NIH human subjects research certification. NIH offers a computer-based training program at http://cme.cancer.gov/clinicaltrials/learning/humanparticipant-protections.asp.
