AURA-IRB System Update, AURA-IRB Release Date

The University is continuing to work towards a comprehensive electronic research administration system, and last summer the University launched the electronic system called AURA (Automated University Research Administration) for external funding.  The next phase of AURA involves the Institutional Review Boards (IRB) on campus. AURA-IRB will REPLACE the current IRB WISE system.

The AURA-IRB on-line system is in the final stages of development and will be used by the IRBs for online research submissions by faculty, researchers and students.  Institutional Review Board protocol applications, routing and submissions are scheduled to go live in 2012.

AURA Implementation Timeline

The roll-out for AURA-IRB will be implemented on April 2nd, 2012.  AURA-IRB will be the comprehensive system for ALL human research submissions (New Studies, Amendments, Continuing Reviews and Unanticipated Problems) to any of the three IRB offices on campus.

AURA-IRB Transition Plan

The SBS IRB will implement a two-week long transition period in March from when IRBWISE is decommissioned and AURA-IRB converts data.

The AURA-IRB implementation team will be migrating information stored in the existing IRBWISE system to streamline the transition between systems as much as possible.

Over the next several weeks, additional communications will be sent to researchers and posted on our website to provide more information related to the release of this new system. This will include training options and detailed information related to the transition period when the existing IRB Wise system will be decommissioned in preparation for the new system.

Please watch for future announcements about schedules, changes and information about this transition from IRB WISE to AURA-IRB system.
